Grant, we beseech Thee, Almighty God, unto us who know that we are weak, and who trust in Thee because we know that Thou art strong, the gladsome help of Thy loving-kindness, both here in time and hereafter in eternity. Amen.
-- Roman Breviary
It can be so easy to depend on our own abilities.
Ok, let me re-phrase that. It can be so tempting to depend on our own abilities. Easy, though? Maybe not.
At the same time, it can be difficult to let go, and place our lives under God's protection and strength.
And yet, in the end, depending on our own abilities... where does that get us? Have you been there?
- Perfectionism?
- Fear?
- Failure?
- Overachieving?
We can run into so many challenges when we're trying to depend on our own ability rather than God's strength. But letting go, resting in God's strength, that's where we can find so much peace.
I love this prayer because it recognizes the challenges of depending on our weakness, and how much we need to depend on God's strength.
