After opening two hospitals in New York, Mother Marianne was asked if she would serve lepers in Molokai, Hawaii. Fifty others had declined the invitation, but Mother Marianne accepted, and brought six sisters with her. She spent years serving those who had contracted leprosy, and children who had been orphaned by parents who had had leprosy.
Since her death August 9, 1918, many miracles have been attributed her intercession.
